How to troubleshoot problems when using welding robots

When using welding robots for welding, problems such as weld deviation and undercut may occur due to improper operation or equipment damage. Below, we will explain the possible problems and their solutions.




① Weld deviation problem: This may be due to incorrect welding position or problems in locating the welding torch. In this case, the accuracy of the TCP (Tool Center Point) needs to be considered and adjusted. If this occurs frequently, the zero position of each robot axis needs to be checked and recalibrated.


② Undercut problem: This may be due to inappropriate welding parameters, incorrect welding torch angle, or position.  Appropriate adjustments can be made to solve this problem.


③ Porosity problem: This may be due to poor gas shielding, excessively thick workpiece primer, or insufficient dryness of the shielding gas. Corresponding adjustments can be made to address this.


④ Excessive spatter problem: This may be due to the welding robot selecting inappropriate welding parameters, problems with the gas composition, or excessive wire extension length. This can be solved by appropriately adjusting the machine power to change the welding parameters, using a gas mixing device to adjust the mixed gas ratio, and adjusting the relative position between the welding torch and the workpiece.


⑤ An arc crater forms at the end of the weld after cooling: This can be filled by adding an arc crater filling function during programming.


⑥ Torch collision: This may be due to deviations in workpiece assembly or inaccurate TCP of the welding torch. Check the assembly situation or correct the TCP of the welding torch.


⑦ Arc failure, unable to ignite the arc: This may be because the welding wire is not in contact with the workpiece or the process parameters are too low.  Manually feed the wire, adjust the distance between the welding torch and the weld, or appropriately adjust the process parameters.


⑧ When the shielding gas monitoring alarm sounds, there may be a fault in the cooling water or shielding gas supply. Please check the cooling water and shielding gas lines.
