Urban bridges and elevated roads are vital transportation arteries. Regular inspections, maintenance, and street light replacements involving working at height consistently face challenges such as traffic disruption, narrow working areas, and high safety risks. Traditional scaffolding or aerial work platforms not only occupy lanes and impede traffic flow but also struggle to flexibly overcome guardrails and obstacles. Aerial work platforms—especially articulated boom lifts—are becoming core equipment in the municipal maintenance field.


The most challenging aspect of bridge maintenance is that work points are often located outside guardrails or under piers, making them difficult to access with ordinary straight-arm equipment. Articulated boom lifts feature a multi-section articulated boom design, allowing for flexible crossing of guardrails, crash barriers, and other obstacles, precisely delivering the platform to the bridge floor or sidewalls. With a working height range of 20-40 meters, they are sufficient for most urban elevated roads and cross-river bridges. The platform can rotate continuously 360°, and with the boom's amplitude adjustment, operators can easily perform delicate procedures such as crack inspection, bolt tightening, and anti-corrosion coating.


Municipal work demands extremely high timeliness. Modern aerial work platforms utilize self-propelled chassis, requiring no external towing and enabling rapid movement across bridge surfaces. Some models are equipped with four-wheel steering and a crab-walking mode, allowing for flexible maneuvering on narrow ramps or emergency lanes. Compared to erecting full-span scaffolding that requires closing several lanes, a single articulated boom aerial work platform occupies only one lane and can complete tasks quickly at night or during off-peak hours, significantly reducing disruption to urban traffic.


Bridge maintenance is a high-risk operation; a fall could have a significant social impact. Aerial work platforms are equipped with anti-tilt systems, overload limits, and emergency descent devices as standard. Operators remain within a closed enclosure throughout the work, fundamentally preventing falls. Electric or hybrid models offer low noise and zero emissions, meeting environmental requirements for nighttime construction in urban areas and avoiding resident complaints and fines.
